BCE subsidiary Bell Canada agreed to pay $10 million over misleading advertised prices

Company: BCE Inc.

Summary

In June 2011, Bell Canada, a BCE Inc. subsidiary, entered an agreement with the Competition Bureau and agreed to pay a $10 million administrative monetary penalty. The Bureau said Bell had advertised prices for services since December 2007 that consumers could not actually obtain because mandatory additional fees were disclosed only in fine print. The agreement resolved the Bureau's concerns and was not a trial judgment. Primary source, Competition Bureau annual report: https://publications.gc.ca/collections/collection_2013/ic/Iu50-2012-eng.pdf
