Holcim subsidiary Lafarge pleaded guilty to providing material support to terrorist organizations
Company: Holcim Ltd
Summary
In October 2022, Lafarge S.A. and its Syrian subsidiary pleaded guilty in the United States to conspiring to provide material support and resources to ISIS and the al-Nusrah Front in Syria. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Lafarge and its Syrian subsidiary made payments and entered into revenue-sharing arrangements with armed groups between August 2013 and October 2014 to enable continued cement operations and protect their commercial interests. The companies were ordered to pay criminal fines and forfeiture totaling $777.78 million. The conduct occurred before the 2015 combination of Lafarge and Holcim. This record is assigned to Holcim Ltd because Lafarge subsequently became part of the Holcim group. It does not imply that the pre-merger Holcim organization participated in the conduct.
