Indivior entities agreed to pay $600 million after a subsidiary pleaded guilty over false Suboxone safety claims
Company: Indivior PLC
Summary
In July 2020, Indivior Solutions pleaded guilty to making false statements relating to healthcare matters. Together with Indivior Inc. and parent company Indivior plc, the entities agreed to pay $600 million to resolve criminal and civil liability associated with marketing the opioid-addiction-treatment drug Suboxone. Indivior Solutions admitted that in October 2012 it sent Massachusetts Medicaid officials false data claiming that Suboxone Film had the lowest accidental pediatric-exposure rate among buprenorphine products in Massachusetts when it did not. The resolution included $289 million in criminal fines, forfeiture and restitution and $300 million resolving civil claims. The broader civil claims remained allegations resolved without a trial.
