AECOM and Bechtel Paid $57.75 Million Over Hanford Time-Charging Fraud

In September 2020, AECOM Energy & Construction, Bechtel entities and their joint subsidiary agreed to pay $57.75 million to resolve claims that they fraudulently overcharged the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Waste Treatment Plant. The Justice Department said the contractors admitted overcharging DOE between 2009 and 2019 for unreasonable and unallowable idle time and billing for work not actually performed. The settlement also required a three-year independent corporate monitor.
