Infineon Pleaded Guilty and Paid $160 Million for DRAM Price Fixing

In October 2004, Infineon Technologies AG pleaded guilty in the United States to participating in an international conspiracy to fix prices for dynamic random access memory, or DRAM. The U.S. Department of Justice charged that the conspiracy ran from 1 July 1999 through 15 June 2002 and affected DRAM sold to major computer and server manufacturers. Infineon agreed to cooperate with the government's continuing investigation and was sentenced to pay a $160 million criminal fine. The Justice Department said it was then the third-largest criminal antitrust fine imposed on a corporation.
