In December 2019, the U.S. Department of Justice reached a settlement with Adecco USA Inc., part of the Swiss-headquartered Adecco staffing group, over employment-verification practices. DOJ concluded that Adecco's Gardena, California office discriminated against a lawful permanent resident and that company practices requested unnecessary work-authorization documents or reverification from certain non-U.S. citizens based on citizenship status. Adecco agreed to pay $67,778 in civil penalties, correct its verification software and procedures, train employees and submit to monitoring.
