Banco BPI EUR 30 million sensitive-information banking cartel fine
The Portuguese Competition Authority found that Banco BPI and other banks participated in a concerted exchange of sensitive commercial information concerning retail-banking credit products between 2002 and 2013. Banks exchanged information such as future mortgage spreads and recent lending volumes, reducing competitive uncertainty. In September 2019 the AdC imposed a EUR 30 million fine on Banco BPI. The broader banking case remained subject to judicial proceedings and appeals through 2025, so this evidence is marked unresolved pending final procedural closure.
