Banco Montepio, S.A. Rotten Score Breakdown

The Portuguese Competition Authority found Caixa Económica Montepio Geral, now Banco Montepio, involved in the concerted exchange of sensitive commercial information among competing banks concerning retail-banking credit products. The conduct ran for more than a decade and involved competitively sensitive information such as future mortgage spreads and lending volumes. The AdC imposed a EUR 13 million fine in September 2019. Montepio had also supplied additional information to the authority under the leniency framework.
