Germany's Bundeskartellamt fined Beiersdorf AG as part of proceedings concerning anti-competitive exchanges of commercially sensitive information among manufacturers of branded drugstore products. The authority found that between 2004 and 2006 leading manufacturers exchanged information at trade-association meetings about planned price increases, retailer rebate demands and the status of negotiations with retailers. The Bundeskartellamt said this type of information exchange impaired competition even where it did not amount to a classic hardcore price-fixing agreement.
