BNP Paribas Pleaded Guilty and Paid $8.9 Billion for Sanctions Violations
In 2014, BNP Paribas agreed to plead guilty in the United States to conspiring to violate U.S. economic sanctions by processing transactions for Sudanese, Iranian and Cuban entities.
The U.S. Department of Justice said BNP Paribas knowingly and willfully moved more than $8.8 billion through the U.S. financial system on behalf of sanctioned entities over an eight-year period. The bank agreed to financial penalties exceeding $8.9 billion.
