Carrefour Fined €1.75 Million for Restrictive Practices Against Suppliers
In March 2021, France's DGCCRF announced that the Paris Commercial Court had ordered Carrefour to stop restrictive practices in negotiations with suppliers and imposed a €1.75 million civil fine. The case followed a DGCCRF investigation into Carrefour's commercial negotiations. The authority said the practices created an imbalance in the retailer's relationships with suppliers. Carrefour Fined €500,000 Over Unfair Contract Terms Imposed on Suppliers
In October 2014, the Paris Court of Appeal ordered Carrefour to pay a €500,000 civil fine after finding that clauses in its standard supplier contract created a significant imbalance in commercial relationships. The clauses allowed Carrefour, among other things, to cancel orders or refuse deliveries in specified circumstances without paying the price. The case was brought by the French economy ministry.
