Dante International S.A. (eMAG)

Romania's Competition Council fined Dante International, operator of eMAG Marketplace, RON 32.28 million for abuse of dominant position. The authority found that between January 2013 and June 2019 eMAG used its marketplace position and platform mechanisms to favour its own offers over competing sellers. Dante acknowledged the conduct and the authority imposed measures concerning the platform's algorithms. Romania's Competition Council sanctioned Dante International, Altex Romania, Flanco Retail and Samsung Electronics Romania and Bulgaria for an anticompetitive agreement affecting televisions and mobile phones during 2019-2021. The authority said resale prices were fixed between Samsung and each retail partner, restricting retailers' ability to set prices independently. Dante International received a RON 20,311,427 fine.
