In August 2024, Ofgem concluded an enforcement investigation into Drax Power Limited's reporting under the Renewables Obligation scheme. Ofgem found that inadequate data governance and controls contributed to Drax misreporting annual profiling data for the 2021/22 compliance period and being unable to provide sufficient evidence supporting the reliability of forestry-type and sawlog data for Canadian biomass consignments. Drax accepted the findings, agreed to resubmit the data, make a £25 million payment to Ofgem's Voluntary Redress Fund, and commission an independent external audit covering 98% of its global supply chain. Ofgem explicitly said it found no evidence of deliberate misreporting, no evidence that Drax had incorrectly received Renewables Obligation Certificates, and no evidence that it failed the government's sustainability threshold.
