French competition authority fined EDF €13.5 million for favoring its solar subsidiary
On 17 December 2013, the French Competition Authority fined EDF €13.543 million after finding that EDF used resources linked to its public electricity-supply role to favor its subsidiary EDF ENR in the emerging residential photovoltaic-solar market. The authority identified conduct from November 2007 through April 2009, including use of customer information and EDF's brand advantages. This record concerns the authority's finding against EDF itself, while identifying the benefited subsidiary rather than attributing separate subsidiary conduct to the parent. French competition authority fined EDF €300 million for abusing regulated-customer data and infrastructure
On 22 February 2022, the French Competition Authority fined EDF €300 million after finding that, from 2004 through 2021, EDF exploited customer files and commercial infrastructure associated with its public-service electricity tariff activity to market gas and energy services in competitive markets. EDF did not contest the objections and made commitments that the authority rendered binding as part of a negotiated procedure.
