In March 2017, France's Autorité de la concurrence fined ENGIE €100 million for abusing its dominant position in gas markets. The authority found that ENGIE used its historical regulated-tariff customer database and related commercial infrastructure to promote market-price gas and electricity offers. It also found that ENGIE used a misleading commercial argument suggesting it could guarantee greater gas-supply security than competitors. ENGIE did not contest the facts and used the settlement procedure.
