Entergy Agreed to Pay $12 Million Over Internal Accounting Control Failures
In December 2024, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charged Entergy Corporation with failing to maintain adequate internal accounting controls over materials and supplies recorded on its balance sheets. The SEC alleged that from at least mid-2018 Entergy had information indicating that its inventory included substantial potential surplus, including aged materials and quantities exceeding anticipated use, but failed to establish a comprehensive process to identify and properly remeasure that surplus under GAAP. Without admitting or denying the allegations, Entergy consented to a final judgment requiring a $12 million civil penalty and adoption of improvements recommended by an independent consultant.
