Goldman Sachs paid more than $5 billion over misleading mortgage-backed securities
DOJ and federal and state partners reached a settlement exceeding $5 billion with Goldman Sachs over residential mortgage-backed securities issued between 2005 and 2007. Goldman acknowledged that mortgage pools included loans it knew did not comply with originators' underwriting guidelines and that it failed to disclose important information about risky loans and aggressive lending practices.
