In 2011, the European Commission found that Henkel, Procter & Gamble and Unilever participated in a cartel concerning household laundry detergents in eight European countries. The infringement involved coordination affecting powder detergents and included anticompetitive conduct connected with pricing. Liability was attributed to Henkel AG & Co. KGaA for its own conduct and that of relevant subsidiaries. Henkel was not fined because it was the first company to reveal the cartel to the Commission and qualified for immunity under the EU leniency programme. Immunity from a fine did not erase the Commission's finding that Henkel participated in the infringement.
