NHTSA fined Honda $70 million for failing to report death, injury and warranty claims

On January 8, 2015, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced two NHTSA civil penalties totaling $70 million against Honda. NHTSA found that Honda failed to report 1,729 death-and-injury claims between 2003 and 2014 and also failed to report certain warranty and customer-satisfaction-campaign claims during the same period. Honda paid the penalty and accepted enhanced oversight and audits.
