In March 2012, the European Commission imposed fines on international freight-forwarding companies for participation in four separate cartels affecting air-freight forwarding services. Kuehne+Nagel received fines totaling approximately €53.7 million. The European Commission found that the cartels coordinated surcharges and charging mechanisms affecting prices for freight-forwarding services between 2002 and 2007. Kuehne+Nagel challenged the decision, but the General Court of the European Union dismissed its action concerning the Commission decision in February 2016.
