The Hungarian Competition Authority found that Nitrogénművek and related fertiliser companies unlawfully restricted competition through resale-price controls, restrictions on which customers resellers could serve, minimum annual purchase quantities and exclusivity intended to restrict imports. The practices had been investigated from 2011 onward. In 2021 the Nitrogénművek group received approximately HUF 11.05 billion of the record sanctions. Court proceedings later confirmed the most serious price-fixing and market-sharing infringements but led to a repeated GVH proceeding on other aspects, which was still ongoing in 2025; this record is therefore marked unresolved.
