Nomura U.S. affiliates paid $480 million to settle RMBS misrepresentation allegations
On October 16, 2018, Nomura Holding America Inc. and affiliates agreed to pay $480 million in U.S. civil penalties concerning residential mortgage-backed securities issued in 2006 and 2007. The Justice Department alleged that the affiliates knowingly securitized defective loans, misled investors about due diligence and loan quality, and concealed underwriting and appraisal defects. This was a civil settlement of allegations, not a trial finding against Nomura Holdings, Inc.; Nomura states that its global name covers the parent and direct and indirect subsidiaries.
