Nordea USD 35 million AML compliance settlement
The New York State Department of Financial Services found that Nordea failed to maintain an effective anti-money-laundering programme, failed to conduct adequate due diligence on correspondent banking relationships and failed to maintain an adequate transaction-monitoring system. The consent order covered historical deficiencies spanning 2008 to 2019. Nordea agreed to pay a USD 35 million civil monetary penalty in August 2024.
