NRG Energy, Inc.

In November 2012, Louisiana Generating LLC, an electric generating company owned by NRG Energy, agreed to a Clean Air Act settlement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Justice concerning the Big Cajun II coal-fired power plant in Louisiana. The settlement required approximately $250 million in pollution-control investments designed to eliminate more than 27,300 tons of harmful emissions per year. Louisiana Generating also agreed to pay a $3.5 million civil penalty and spend $10.5 million on environmental mitigation projects. The agreement addressed alleged Clean Air Act violations at the facility and imposed extensive injunctive relief and emissions-reduction requirements.
