In April 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and New Jersey announced a proposed settlement with PPG Industries concerning the Riverside Industrial Park Superfund site in Newark. Under the settlement, PPG agreed to design and perform cleanup work estimated at $15.8 million and reimburse approximately $2.9 million previously spent by EPA, in addition to paying EPA's future oversight costs. EPA's cleanup plan addresses contaminated soil, soil gas, groundwater, sewer water and waste at the industrial property.
