S&P Global Ratings Paid $2.5 Million to Resolve SEC Rating-Process Violations
In November 2022, S&P Global Ratings reached a settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission concerning violations connected with a 2017 residential mortgage-backed securities rating. The SEC found violations of rules intended to prevent commercial employees from participating in the credit-rating process and found that S&P failed to establish, maintain and enforce adequate written policies and procedures designed to ensure compliance. S&P Global Ratings agreed to pay a $2.5 million penalty. The company did not admit or deny the SEC's allegations and emphasized its remedial actions and cooperation.
