Salzgitter Subsidiary Penalized in European Seamless Steel Tubes Cartel
European competition authorities found that Mannesmannröhren-Werke, later Salzgitter Mannesmann GmbH, participated in a market-sharing cartel involving seamless steel tubes.
The European Commission's 1999 decision addressed eight producers and found agreements restricting competition in the seamless steel-tube market. The company challenged the decision, but in January 2007 the EU Court of Justice dismissed its appeal and confirmed the Commission's cartel finding.
