In June 2018, Société Générale agreed to resolutions with U.S. and French authorities involving bribery of Gaddafi-era Libyan officials and manipulation of the LIBOR benchmark. The U.S. Department of Justice said the bank admitted making more than $90 million in corrupt payments and agreed to penalties including $585 million relating to the Libyan bribery scheme and $275 million relating to LIBOR manipulation.
