STRABAG Austrian construction cartel settlement and EUR 146 million total fine
The Austrian Federal Competition Authority investigated a nationwide construction cartel involving illegal price fixing, market allocation, bid coordination and exchanges of competitively sensitive information in public and private construction tenders. STRABAG originally received a EUR 45.37 million fine in 2021. After further proceedings concerning the scope of its cooperation and leniency treatment, STRABAG concluded a legally binding settlement in March 2026 accepting an additional EUR 100.63 million, bringing the total fine to EUR 146 million. The underlying cartel conduct covered projects during the 2002–2017 period.
