Swisscom Fined CHF 71.8 Million for Abusing Dominance in Pay-TV Sports

In May 2016, Switzerland's Competition Commission fined Swisscom CHF 71,818,517 after finding that Swisscom and subsidiaries Cinetrade and Teleclub abused a dominant position in live pay-TV broadcasts of Swiss football and ice hockey. COMCO found that competing TV platforms received reduced sports offerings, worse terms or no sports content, hindering competition between TV platforms. In June 2022, the Federal Administrative Court essentially dismissed the appeal and confirmed the CHF 71.8 million sanction.
