On December 30, 2015, TELUS reached a consent agreement with the Competition Bureau to provide up to $7.34 million in rebates relating to premium-text-messaging charges. The Bureau had alleged that consumers were misled by representations in digital advertisements and were charged for services they did not intend to purchase. The consent agreement resolved the matter without a trial judgment or admission being inferred beyond its terms.
