Vodafone Fined £4.6 Million by Ofcom for Billing and Complaints Failures
In October 2016, UK communications regulator Ofcom fined Vodafone a total of £4.6 million for serious and sustained breaches of consumer-protection rules. Ofcom's investigations identified problems including inaccurate billing of pay-as-you-go customers and failures in Vodafone's complaints-handling procedures. Ofcom said the company's billing systems had failed to properly credit customers who paid money into their accounts, while its complaints processes did not comply with required standards. Ofcom described the breaches as serious and sustained. Vodafone accepted the findings and took remedial action.
