In April 2026, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced a Clean Air Act settlement with Waste Management of Alameda County, a wholly owned subsidiary of Waste Management Inc., concerning the Altamont Landfill in California. EPA said the landfill illegally vented and mismanaged treated landfill gas. The subsidiary agreed to pay a $215,000 penalty. EPA stated that the landfill had come into compliance with federal landfill requirements as a result of the enforcement action.
