XPO Last Mile Paid $94,541 to Settle Religious Discrimination Lawsuit
In January 2018, XPO Last Mile, Inc. agreed to pay $94,541 and provide other relief to settle a religious-discrimination lawsuit brought by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The EEOC alleged that XPO rescinded a job offer after an applicant said he could not begin work on October 3, 2016 because he observed Rosh Hashanah. According to the agency, a manager initially indicated that starting the next day would be acceptable, but a market vice president later refused the religious accommodation and the offer was revoked. The three-year consent decree required XPO Last Mile to adopt and distribute a policy against religious discrimination, provide employee training, report its handling of religious-accommodation requests to the EEOC and post a notice about the settlement.
