In March 2019, the European Commission imposed fines on ZF TRW entities for participation in two cartels concerning occupant-safety systems supplied to Volkswagen Group and BMW Group vehicles. The infringements involved commercially sensitive information and, in some instances, more concrete coordination concerning seatbelts, airbags and steering wheels. ZF had acquired TRW in 2015. The Commission imposed €158.824 million on the relevant ZF TRW entities for the Volkswagen-related infringement and €30.067 million for the BMW-related infringement, for a combined amount of approximately €188.9 million.
