Aurubis Changed Joint-Venture Rules After Bundeskartellamt Competition Investigation
In August 2024, Germany's Bundeskartellamt concluded an administrative competition proceeding involving Aurubis AG, Wieland Werke AG and their jointly controlled company Schwermetall Halbzeugwerk. The authority examined contractual provisions that required shareholder approval before Schwermetall could change its product mix or customer portfolio or manufacture and supply new alloys. Aurubis and Wieland agreed to modify their cooperation. The Bundeskartellamt made the commitments binding, ensuring that Schwermetall could independently decide which pre-rolled copper products and alloys to supply and to which customers, and then closed the proceeding.
