The Central Bank of Ireland reprimanded and fined The Governor and Company of the Bank of Ireland, the principal bank within Bank of Ireland Group, EUR 100.52 million for 81 admitted regulatory breaches affecting 15,910 tracker-mortgage customer accounts between August 2004 and June 2022. The regulator found that the bank repeatedly interpreted unclear mortgage terms in its own favour, failed to warn customers about loss of tracker entitlements, used unfair complaint-handling practices and had deficient systems and controls. The failings resulted in the loss of 50 properties, including 25 family homes. The enforcement action is concluded.
