Damen Shipyards Prosecuted Over Alleged Russia Sanctions Violations
The Dutch Public Prosecution Service announced in April 2025 that Damen Shipyards Gorinchem would also be prosecuted in a separate case for alleged violations of Dutch sanctions law. The allegation concerns goods and technology that could contribute to Russia's military and technological capabilities, during several months in the second half of 2022. The matter is separate from the corruption case and remains unresolved. Damen has denied wrongdoing and said the relevant deliveries complied with applicable sanctions rules. Damen Shipyards on Trial Over Alleged Bribery, Forgery and Money Laundering
Dutch prosecutors announced in April 2025 that Damen Shipyards Gorinchem and Damen Naval Shipyards would be prosecuted for alleged bribery, forgery and money laundering connected with overseas ship sales. The investigation concerns conduct from 2006 through January 2017 and alleged high commissions paid to agents. The criminal case began in late 2025 and remains unresolved. Damen Shipyards Debarred by World Bank for 18 Months
The World Bank debarred B.V. Scheepswerf Damen Gorinchem for 18 months in 2016. World Bank records state that the company was ineligible for Bank-financed contracts during the debarment and that release depended on compliance and cooperation conditions. An OECD review later described the World Bank action as following Damen's failure to disclose payments to an agent in a tender to supply fisheries patrol boats. World Bank records show Damen was released from sanctions in September 2017 after satisfying applicable conditions.
