The FTC alleged that Schein marketed the software as using industry-standard encryption for sensitive patient information and as helping dental practices satisfy regulatory obligations, while the product actually used a less complex data-masking process that did not meet accepted encryption standards. The final order prohibited misleading claims about encryption and regulatory compliance and required the company to notify customers who had purchased Dentrix G5 during the period of the challenged representations.
